An overdraft occurs when the available balance in your account is insufficient to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. First Northern offers our members 3 options to cover any unplanned overdrafts:
When you open your account (or any time!), set up overdraft transfer to automatically transfer funds from your share savings or other deposit account should you not have enough in your checking account to cover a transaction. As long as funds are available from your linked account, your transaction won’t be declined, and you’ll avoid inconvenience, embarrassment and additional fees from the merchant*.
If there aren’t enough funds in your linked share account to cover the transaction, or if a linked account has not been set up, Courtesy Pay can help offer you the peace of mind you need.
Instead of rejecting the transaction, we’ll pay it and charge you a small fee* to save you high merchant fees, as well as the embarrassment and penalties associated with a returned item.
With Courtesy Pay:
- Included with checking accounts in good standing
- No charge for this protection unless you use it
- Covers checks, ACH withdrawals, bill pay payments, and recurring debit card transactions are covered up to $750
- You have 30 days to bring your account current via direct deposit, transfer of funds, or a deposit
