Account Alerts (not real-time)

Account alerts allow you to be notified of the following statuses for each of your accounts. Each account can have different alert settings.

  • Log in to online banking
  • In the upper right corner of your My Accounts page, click on the silhouette of a person in a circle and select Manage Alerts.
  • Select the format you would like to receive your notifications — text message or email (or both)— along with a verification of your contact information. 
  • You can be notified for the following options: 
    • If your account balance drops below a pre-specified amount
    • If your balance exceeds a pre-specified amount
    • If a credit or debit transaction exceeds a pre-specified amount (Note: this amount can be as low as $0 to alert you for all transactions)

Security Alerts (real-time)

Security alerts allow you to be notified in real-time about any or all of the following changes:

  • When your ID, password, email address, phone number, alert preferences, or other settings have been changed
  • If a PIN has been enabled or disabled
  • If a transfer has been conducted of a pre-specified dollar amount or more

Visa® Purchase Alerts

Visa Purchase Alerts are real-time text or email alerts when you pay with your Visa Credit Card. These alerts may help keep your account secure by empowering you to catch fraud. (Note: First Northern Debit Cards can be controlled within mobile or online banking.)

SecurLock® Credit Card Control Mobile App

The SecurLock Credit Card Control App allows you to control how, where, and when your credit cards are used via your mobile device. Turn your card on or off with the touch of a button, set location-based controls, block international transactions, or set spending limits.

If you need additional assistance setting up alerts, visit a branch location or call us at 888-328-8677 and our team can walk you through the process step-by-step. For your security, we cannot access your dashboard and set them up for you. 

If you wish to send money, we offer a similar service called Pay A Friend through our partner, Payveris, which works the same way as Zelle®. 

Some facts about Pay A Friend: 

Will the recipient be notified? Yes. Once the FNCU member initiates the transfer, the recipient will receive a confirmation email or text immediately that they have a pending transaction. The recipient must accept the transaction within 10 days or it will be canceled. The text message will come from 860-724-2029 and the email will come from no-reply@payveris.com.

Can I store frequent payees? Yes. You can store information about frequent payees (recipients) to use again at a later date.

When will the funds leave my account? Funds will stay available in the FNCU member's account until the recipient accepts the transaction. The recipient must accept the transaction within 10 days or it will be canceled. Once accepted, recipient will receive funds within 1-2 business days.

Can I cancel the transaction? Absolutely! You may can cancel the transaction as long as the recipient has not yet accepted it. Once accepted, it cannot be canceled. 

Is it secure? How will I know if the funds were transferred to the right person? You will be prompted to create a security question and answer that only your intended recipient can answer. If the recipient enters in the wrong answer to the security question or email address/mobile number three times they are locked out and the transaction is canceled. The FNCU member would need to set up another transaction for the recipient.

When the recipient accepts the transfer, they must enter a valid routing number and account number. It is then sent to their financial institution for processing (which takes 1-2 business days to post to their account). If the recipient enters an incorrect account number, the transfer will fail and funds will be returned to the FNCU member's account. If the recipient inadvertently enters an account number that is correct but not owned by the recipient, the recipient will need to reach out their financial institution for assistance.

How To Enroll

Just open a First Northern account and sign up for free secure eStatements.  Then log in to online banking and:

  • Under "Other Services" click "Statements/Docs"
  • Click "Proceed" to be directed to a secure site.
  • Under "My Profile", choose "Email" for all Notification Preferences, and under "Enrollment Information" "Statement Type" choose "E-Statements". 
  • That's all! Enroll or change your preferences at any time. It’s fast, easy and secure.
