Debit Card Fraud Recovery Checklist

Do you have a debit card linked to an account at First Northern? Have you found an unusual or unauthorized debit transaction while viewing your account transactions via online/mobile banking or on your latest statement? 

  1. Call First Northern immediately to report the suspected fraud at (888) 328-8677 during business hours. After hours, contact Visa® Debit Card customer service at (800) 523-4175. You can also turn your Visa Debit Card off or on using our online banking service or official mobile app.
  2. Staff at First Northern can help to block your existing debit card account number. This will prevent additional fraudulent transactions from being authorized. 
  3. You will receive a dispute form to complete for any fraudulent transactions that have already posted to your account.
  4. If you would like to fill this form out in advance you can locate the Visa Debit Chargeback Fraud Form on our website via our forms page
  5. First Northern will issue you a new debit card number, rendering the previous account number inactive. All branches have the ability to issue you a new debit card instantly onsite. If you are unable to come into a branch to receive your new card, First Northern mail a card to your residence.
  6. Once you have received your new card, set up your PIN via the phone number provided to you.
  7. Review your transaction history to ensure any recurring debts or bills utilizing your debit card for auto payment are updated to your new debit card account number. 
  8. You also have the right to file a police report.
